Do you currently find yourself with room in your life and heart for a fuzzy buddy but can’t currently make a life-long commitment? Become a foster parent! *

Foster Homes are the backbone of our rescue group. They can be lifesavers for pets who can't adapt to shelter life, those who need to be nursed back to health and orphaned kittens who need someone to step in for their mom (or whose needs are beyond what busy shelter staff can often provide).

Our strong network of foster providers allows us to keep accepting animals in need. If you already have pets of your own, fostering can also often very fun for the resident pet provided you follow proper introduction protocols.

One of the best ways to help a shelter is to adopt one of our pets!

Save a life: Rescue pets make wonderful  companions! It's a wonderful feeling to know that you're giving a loving home to a cat or dog in need. You can learn a lot about a shelter pet by talking with the foster caring for them. They can help you determine if you and the pet would make a good match.

Volunteer* in-person! Do you have experience as a carpenter or electrician? Are you a marketing or dog walking whiz? All of these skills are valuable! Or be open to learning something new that is needed, such as trap-neuter-return for unowned cats.
Stuff you can do to help Fur Real NYC includes:

• Trapping projects

• Transport and Escort cats to and from their vet appointments

• Come to one of our Queens shelters to:

  • ​Help socialize kittens

  • Keep company to cats that don't get enough attention because we're overwhelmed with cats
